Privacy Policy

Net Tenerife · Tenerife, Spain

This page explains what hirecartenerife.com collects when you search for a car in Tenerife, why we collect it, who else sees it, and the choices the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you over it. It does not cover what the rental supplier collects once your booking is confirmed; their own notice, sent with your confirmation, covers that part.

1. Who is responsible for your data

For the information this website itself collects, the controller is Net Tenerife, operating hirecartenerife.com. For the rental booking you place, the controller is the supplier whose car you reserved; they decide how long to keep the agreement, the licence details they recorded and any deposit information, under their own notice and under Spain law. We never take over that role, and we cannot answer on the supplier's behalf for data they hold about you.

2. What we collect

There are three sources of personal data on this site, and nothing beyond them:

  • The contact or booking form. Name, email address and whatever message or booking preference you type into it. We ask for nothing else, no card number, no scan of a licence or passport.
  • The search you run. Your chosen dates, pickup location and car filters are sent to the rental supplier's booking API so it can return live availability and pricing; this is the normal mechanics of the search, not a separate data sale.
  • Aggregate visit analytics. We look at overall traffic to the site, pages viewed and roughly where visitors come from, to see which pages are useful. These figures are aggregated and are not tied back to an individual by name.

We do not knowingly collect anything from these sources beyond what is listed above, and we do not build a profile of returning visitors.

3. Our lawful basis for each use

Replying to a message you send through the contact form rests on our legitimate interest in running a working support channel, and on taking steps towards a contract once you ask about a booking. Sending your search parameters to a supplier so you can see real availability is necessary to perform the service you asked for when you opened the search form. Visit analytics rest on legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, kept proportionate because the figures are aggregated rather than personal. Where we rely on consent for anything beyond this, for example a specific marketing message, we ask for it separately and you may withdraw it at any time.

4. Who we share it with

Search parameters and, once you submit one, booking requests are shared with the rental supplier whose car you are enquiring about; this is the whole point of the booking request and cannot be avoided if you want a confirmed rental. We also use a small number of processors acting on our instructions only, such as our hosting provider and email delivery service, who may see data in transit but have no right to use it for their own purposes.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not pass your details to any supplier you have not actively chosen on the search grid.

5. How long we keep it

A message sent through the contact form is kept for as long as needed to answer it and for a short period afterwards in case the thread reopens, then deleted. Search parameters passed to a supplier's API are not stored by us once the results are returned to your browser; any copy that lingers client-side as a convenience clears itself automatically, as described in the Cookie Policy. Aggregate analytics figures are retained longer because they contain nothing that identifies you individually.

6. International transfers

Tenerife is in Spain, inside the European Union and the European Economic Area, so in the ordinary case your data moves between us, a supplier and our hosting provider without ever leaving the EEA. If a processor we rely on, such as an email delivery or analytics tool, is based outside the EEA, we only use providers that offer an adequate safeguard, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, and we review that before switching to a new one.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you can ask us at any time to:

Access

Ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it.

Rectification

Have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.

Erasure

Ask us to delete data we no longer have a reason to keep.

Restriction

Ask us to pause processing while a query about your data is resolved.

Portability

Receive the data you gave us in a format you can reuse elsewhere.

Objection

Object to processing based on our legitimate interest, including analytics.

Withdraw consent

Withdraw a consent you gave us at any time, with no effect on anything already done.

Lodge a complaint

Complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the AEPD, or your own national authority.

8. Children

This website is built for adults planning a car rental and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below the age a driver must be to hold a rental agreement in Tenerife. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.

9. Keeping your data secure

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to the systems behind it is limited to the people who maintain it. We also keep the amount of personal data we hold deliberately small: there is no card payment page on this site and no store of licence or passport images, so there is very little of that kind for a breach to expose in the first place.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this page when our practices change or when the law requires it. The version published here at the time you use the site is the one that applies, and we recommend rereading it before a later visit if some time has passed.

11. How to reach us

For any question about this policy, or to exercise one of the rights above, email [email protected]. We handle privacy requests by email only; this site has no phone line, which keeps a clear written record of what was asked and what we did about it.

Questions readers ask about their data

No. Payment, where one is taken in advance, is handled by the supplier or their payment provider, never by this website. We never ask for a card number, and if a form on this site ever did, you should treat it as suspicious and contact us directly.
Only the search parameters needed to answer your query, such as your pickup and return dates, the location and the car category, plus, once you submit a booking request, the contact details you choose to enter: name, email and the information the supplier needs to prepare your confirmation.
No. We are paid a commission by the supplier when a booking you make is confirmed. That is an advertising arrangement, not a data sale, and it requires no personal data beyond confirming that your booking happened through this site.
The rights listed on this page are offered to every visitor regardless of where you are reading from. If you live in a country with its own data protection law, that law may give you additional routes alongside the ones described here.
Email us at the address below, tell us what you want removed and, if you contacted us before, the address you used. There is no account and no form, so a short email is the whole process.
